Week 1 is in the books. Can you belize it? Anyways, it kinda sucked so let’s take a look at this hot action.
Packers 27 Future 2025 NFC North Champs (Lions) 13
WTF was that. The Packers had their Super Bowl in Week 1 with very strong defense and timely early offense on third down. Packers converted 3 long first downs on the first drive and Love found Kraft just over Campbell for the TD. Lions 3 and out and the Packers were offside on the punt but they called false start on Lions. Negated a great Jack Fox punt and the Packers started at mid-field. This helped them get a FG and 10-0 lead. Detroit responded with a long methodical drive but stalled in the red zone to cut the game to 10-3.
Terrion Arnold, tried to play through a bad groin injury and got torched on 2 plays to change the game and 17-3 lead when Love found Jayden Reed. Lions responded well with another methodical drive deep in Packers territory, but Parsons got pressure and Evan Williams made a great jump for a 3rd down pick. Packers were stuffed 3 times on a run and punted but Lions didn’t have enough time for points. 17-3 at half.
Lions came out firing second half with two strikes to Sam La Porta but again settled for a red zone FG. 17-6 Bad Guys. Packers were stopped for another 3 and out and Lions had another chance. Lions get a first down but then a 3rd down sack by Van Ness/Gary kills the drive. Packers are stopped yet again and Love should have been pick 6ed by Brian Branch but Arnold’s replacement Rock Ya Sin had a holding call. 17-13 stays 17-6 and the Packers move the ball a little to punt the Lions deep in their own territory.
A sack on first down by Gary almost is a safety and Lions can only run twice to avoid it. Reed returns the punt 20 yards and GB another short field at the Lions 36. 8 plays and Jacobs runs it in from 3 yards. Woof. 24-6 Packers. Lions down big go 4 and out and another short field for Packers. Packers milk clock and kick FG up 27-6.
Final drive, Parsons gets his first sack running down Goff. The Lions rebound in garbage time and drive down the field and TesLaa makes an amazing first catch reverse one handed toe tap for the TD. Final score 27-13 Packers.
Away division game for the Lions and Packers blew their load. Can’t go 6-0 in division every year and Lions 3 in a row at Lambeau ended. Lions will get revenge on Thanksgiving.
Week 2 Packers have short week but host the Commanders on TNF. The Lions host the Bears (0-1) at 1 PM ET on FOX. Lions time to rise.
Vikings 27 Bears 24
Bears dominated for 3 Quarters with strong defense and a good first drive TD for the Bears and led 17-6 after a pick 6 by Nashon Wright in the early 3rd Quarter. Vikings did get a 59 yard FG right before half time which would be important.
However, you never give up and after a Bears missed FG (and failed 4th down conversion deep in Vikings territory earlier in the game), the Vikings had a chance. JJ McCarthy caught fire and threw his first TD to Justin Jefferson. 2 pointer failed but close game at 17-12. Caleb started with inaccuracy and getting sacked. And Vikings started at 50 yard line and made quick work for another TD with a great throw to Aaron Jones on a wheel route. 20-17 Vikings. Another 5 play drive for Bears with nothing. Vikings march down the field 68 yards and JJ McCarthy runs it in for the score and 27-17 lead. Chicago gets back in it with a TD drive but not much time left. Instead of onside or kicking out of bounds, Bears kick deep and Vikings return it and waste the 2 minute timeout for the Bears. Vikings run down clock and Bears only have 1 play and very far to go. Laterals fail and the Vikings win at Soldier Field. comeback. comeback.
