Don’t Just Stand There, Bust a Move

The NFL actually had a crazy trade deadline and half the NFC North was very active in it.

North Moves

Lions traded a 2019 5th round pick for Damon “Snacks” Harrison

This is a huge move for Detroit’s run defense. He is 29 and a great run stuffer. He can occupy two blockers and two gaps at 350 pounds and will open things up for Jarrad Davis. He provides some push in the pocket for hurries but limited sacks, though he had one last Sunday already. Harrison has 2.5 years left on his deal with the Giants and will only be base salary for Detroit. This was a great trade and he played really well in his debut against Seattle last Sunday.

Eagles trade a 2019 3rd round pick for Golden Tate

I have to admit that this was a stunner. Golden Tate is a very good player for the Lions and the YAC king. Losing him will change the Lions offense and he will be tough to replace. With that being said, Tate was on the last year of his deal and expecting a decent sized deal despite being 30 years old.

Tate would have only netted a comp pick in 2020 and this pick will be in 2019 and a higher pick than late 3rd or late 4th. Also, if the Lions are active in free agency in 2019, which they should be, the Lions might not have received a comp pick at all for Tate signing elsewhere. Detroit must be confident in the rest of the offense and the new revamped running game. We’ll see how this plays out for Detroit as they are still in the thick of the NFC North race.

Packers trade Ha Ha Clinton Dix Redskins trade a 2019 4th round pick.

The Packers lost their Dix. Ha Ha was the 3rd ranked safety in PFF. How can he be traded for so little? The free safety was a little inconsistent and was running his mouth lately. He was on the last year of his deal and the Packers didn’t appear to want to extend him at his asking price. Guntekunst is German and prefers SILENCE!!! This leaves a void in the Packers secondary. Kentrell Brice and Josh Jones (2nd round pick 2017) will need to step up.

Packers trade Ty “Fumbles” Montgomery to the Ravens for a 2020 conditional 7th round pick

Bend thy knee says Guntekunst. Montgomery ran the ball out against the Rams and fumbled costing the Packers the game. He has been phased out at RB a little too. His contract was coming up and the Packers will roll with Jones and Williams. Montgomery’s punishment for a poor decision is to live in Baltimore.

Other Moves

Cowboys trade a 1st round pick for Amari Cooper. Jerry being Jerry. Cooper has talent but has really disappointed the last 1.5 years for the Raiders.

Dante Fowler traded to LA for a 2019 3rd round pick and 2020 5th round pick. Fowler was a high first round pick but underachieved at DE despite Malik Jackson and Calais Campbell on his line. Fowler has talent and the Rams could get a steal.

Texans trade 2019 4th round pick and 2019 7th round pick for Demaryius Thomas and a 7th round pick. Thomas has been a good number 1 WR for the Broncos for years. The Texans now pair him with DeAndre Hopkins. Will Fuller tore his ACL and Thomas can be a deep threat.

Eli Apple was traded from the Giants to the Saints for a 4th and 7th round pick in 2020. Apple has been inconsistent as a 1st round pick for the Giants but has talent. The Saints love former Ohio State DBs (Lattimore, Bell and Coleman).
