Nailed It! 2015: Moving On Up

Opinion Picks
Website | + posts

Heading into this week, the Pantheon was feeling about as good Nick Foles’ ribs on Sunday. It had been two straght weeks of only 10 points scored, and with the way the NFL was looking this year, who knew if that would improve. Well, I’m happy to say that we did improve! Our prognosticators scored 12 points this week.  Sticking with the math-theme in the heading thus far this season, that is two more than last week. (All of those years of math were definitely not wasted on me.)

That’s right, things are hopefully starting to look up for the Pantheon. I had hoped we hit the bottom these last two weeks, with nowhere to go but up, so I’m taking this increase as a sign that we are moving on up. Although there was not another correct final score this week, I know that there will be more. And I fully expect to see some more picks go against the grain, too. Either way, let’s keep the points coming, and keep adding names to the Pantheon.

Also, that hit in the picture above? Totally legal, and not deserving of a flag in any way.

Okay, enough of my rambling, bring on the games!

The Games

As always, here is the slate for next week’s games. Simply copy and paste it to the comments, and add your predicted scores after the team names. (Substitute scores for the XX and YY.)

  • Atlanta Falcons XX @ New Orleans Saints YY
  • Chicago Bears XX @ Detroit Lions YY
  • Kansas City Chiefs XX @ Minnesota Vikings YY
  • Carolina Panthers XX @ Seattle Seahawks YY
  • San Diego Chargers XX @ Green Bay Packers YY

Once you have called your shots down below, please update the spreadsheet. Here is the link.  (Only update the cells in your own column.)

The Official CYST Spreadsheet

Just a reminder that the game between the Falcons and the Saints is a Thursday night game. Please make sure that you have called your shot prior to the game beginning tonight. Once the game has started, the cells will be locked, and no more shots may be called for it.

With all of that out of the way, read on to find exactly who Nailed It!

Final score

These are the people who have (somehow) correctly predicted the final outcome of a game. The only shot that was called that could be considered more famous than these belongs to Babe Ruth. Bow down before their wisdom! (And make sure you ask them for next week’s lotto numbers.)

  • None this week.

Scoring differential

These are the ones who correctly predicted the margin by which the victors would best their competition. These are also the ones to consult if you want to bet the spread.

  • St. Louis @ Green Bay – Natesweet correctly predicted that the Packers would win by 14 points.
  • Jacksonville @ Tampa Bay – Natesweet correctly predicted that the Buccaneers would win by seven points.

Total combined score

These are those who somehow managed to pick the correct total score but did not have any clue in how the teams would actually get there. Still, if you want to bet an over/under, you could do worse than consulting with them.

  • New Orleans @ Philadelphia – BearsSaveLives and Maized and Confused both correctly predicted that the teams would combine to score 56 points.
  • Washington @ Atlanta – BearsSaveLives, MIB, and Natesweet all correctly predicted that the teams would combine to score 44 points.
  • Arizona @ Detroit – TheHairy correctly predicted that the teams would combine to score 59 points.

Winning team’s score

  • St. Louis @ Green Bay ALLSAINTSROW, CURTISFRYER, C-Jammin, and Jmac34 all correctly predicted that the Packers would win with a score of 24 points.

Against the grain

Oftentimes, our picks will be unanimous. However, there are those who will sometimes walk their own path.

  • None this week.

Week 5 Leaderboard

Now on to the leaderboard!

There was no real shake-up on the leaderboard this week. The top two stayed the same, but by getting another point this week, ALLSAINTSROW moved out of a tie for third into sole possession with five points. Behind him was the only new addition to the board.  With three points scored in what can be considered a big week, Natesweet moved up into a three-way tie for fourth place.  Also joining him there is Jmac34 who scored one point, to move out of a three-way tie for fifth place last week. While it may not seem like much right now, there are five people sitting just off the board with three points, who could soon see their names up here if they have a good week.

With that said, here is the leaderboard after Week 5 (in the case of a tie, the names are arranged alphabetically):

  1. Gabes222 – 7 points
  2. MKE – 6 points
  3. ALLSAINTSROW – 5 points
  4. Jmac34 – 4 points
  5. LSU – 4 points
  6. Natesweet – 4 points

Again, I just wanted to give one last big shoutout to all the people named above. We had a better week than the last two, so I’m hoping that this is just a sign of things to come.

Now let’s give a little congratulatory clap to all the people who are listed in this article. Or not. Your choice.

If you would like to have your name forever enshrined in the vast expanse that is the internet, simply call your shot in the comment section below for the games of the NFC North and NFC South. Once you have done that, please update the spreadsheet using the link provided. I will be reviewing the spreadsheet and keeping track as the season goes on. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even see your name in the leaderboard!

If you cannot call your shots on Thursday, as is custom, it is still possible to participate. As long as your called shots are posted to the spreadsheet before it gets locked at the start of the games, I will include them.
